Ferrari 458 Spider Is Epic

Engineering a mid-engined exotic with a retractable hardtop is a bit tricky. Which is why it’s never been done before – that is, until now. Feast your eyes on what Maranello’s crafty engineers have created.

The new 2012 Ferrari 458. It is world’s first mid-rear engine berlinetta and equipped with a retractable hardtop. The car‘s retracting back-panel mechanism is similar to the one on the Superamerica, but more streamlined in design, and it hides under a double-hump rear deck when stowed (the Superamerica’s roof laid itself on top of the rear deck).

Powered by a 4.5-liter direct-injection V8, 570 hp engine. Top speed is about 198 mph, with a 0-62 time of 3.4 seconds. This car is certainly fast!
